Australia’s sporting capital
No city in Australia loves sport more than Melbourne. Melbourne hosts the biggest international sports and has world-class sports venues. The MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) hosts over 100,000 sporting fans at matches for the Australian Rules Football, Cricket and more. The Olympic Park stadiums draws over 1 million tennis fans to the Australian Open tennis and the world's biggest entertainment icons. And nearly 500,000 spectators watch the Australia Grand Prix at Albert Park each year.
Discover the culinary delights of multicultural Melbourne
Melbournians have welcomed people from all over the world since the Goldrush of the 1850s. The post-WWII migrant boom means Melbourne has the largest Greek and Italian populations of any city outside Europe. Also, Vietnamese refugees flooded into the city in the 1970s, bringing their unique culture and cuisine. This means Melbourne has many ethnic ‘eat streets’ featuring, restaurants, cafes, bars, and character-filled pubs from a diverse range of cultures.
On our Melbourne City Tours you can discover:
the oldest Chinatown outside of Asia
the city’s Greek Precinct
the ‘Little Italy’ of Lygon St, and
historic Jewish bakeries on St Kilda’s Acland Street.
Melbourne showcases a delightful blend of art, music, sport, food, gardens, and of course, is the coffee capital of Australia. The gold rush poured vast wealth into our city, giving rise to the name Marvellous Melbourne.
Here are some other essential Melbourne sights and attractions:
Federation Square and Flinders St railway station
Chinatown and the ‘Paris end’ of Collins St
Melbourne Town Hall, State Parliament, the Windsor Hotel and Goldrush era buildings in Spring St
St Pauls Cathedral and St Patricks Cathedral
Royal Exhibition Buildings and Melbourne Museum
Fitzroy Gardens and Cooks Cottage
Inner city neighbourhoods in Fitzroy, Carlton and South Melbourne with unique shopping strips, historic pubs and cafes
Treasury Building and the underground Gold Vaults
The 1956 Olympic sports precinct, Australian Sports Museum, Melbourne Cricket Ground and Melbourne Park (Australian Open)
Yarra River secrets including Victorian era boathouses, gardens, boulevards and picnic spots
Royal Botanic Gardens and the Shrine of Remembrance
Driving the Albert Park Lake F1 Grand Prix track
St Kilda foreshore, Acland Street, Luna Park and the Palais Theatre
Port Melbourne Beach, Station Pier and the Brighton Bathing Boxes
Victoria Market or South Melbourne Market
Historic Landmarks
From the Brighton Bathing Boxes in the South, the legendary Melbourne Cricket Ground in the East, the Italian flavour of Lygon St in the North and the historic seaport of Williamstown in the West, there is much to see in our Melbourne City Sights Tour.
The beautifully preserved buildings of the gold rush era and Victorian age boom years, sit proudly alongside more contemporary designs like Federation Square.
Sporting Capital
On our Melbourne City Tour, you can visit the birthplace of Australian Rules footy at Yarra Park. Here is where, every week in winter, over 100,000 passionate football fans watch this uniquely Aussie game in the Coliseum-like atmosphere of the MCG, the nation’s biggest sports stadium.
Then in summer the MCG becomes its true name as the Melbourne Cricket Ground hosts cricket games featuring Australia vs England, India, New Zealand, etc, including the historic Boxing Day test – the biggest cricket event in the nation every year.
The river and the bay
On this private tour of Melbourne, you’ll explore the city’s history and culture. Plus see landmarks and stunning views along the Yarra river, as the river winds down to Port Phillip Bay with its many beaches.
Sunsets and City Skyline
Enjoy the stunning city skyline from the Shrine of Remembrance, picture perfect cameos at the Brighton Bathing Boxes or views across the Bay from the historic Williamstown seaport.
See the sights that make Melbourne - Australia’s sporting capital
No city in Australia loves sport more than Melbourne.
Every year, this world-renowned Olympic city draws over 1 million tennis fans to the Australian Open – one of only 4 Grand Slam Tennis Tournaments in the world. And nearly 500,000 F1 motor racing fans gather to watch the Australian Grand Prix at the Albert Park Lake Street circuit. (You can do a lap of the circuit with us in the bus if you like!)

Horse Racing fans don’t get left out either. Because the Flemington Racecourse becomes the epicentre of international thoroughbred racing with the Melbourne Cup held on the first Tuesday in November – the legendary “race that stops a nation”!
